The Cart Lodge is located near the Historic & pretty village of St. Osyth Essex down a private lane leading to a nature reserve, Colne Point nature reserve is a 683 acre reserve noted for its status as a Special Scientific interest site home to many species of birds flora and forna, rare birds such as the Marsh harrier which can often be seen from the cart lodge hunting across the marshes, also barn owls regularly visit the wild medow opposite the cart lodge and you would be very unlucky not to see them just before sunset. A day pass to the Nature reserve are available and it would be a shame not to visit this beautiful reserve during your stay its just a twenty minute walk from the lodge.
St.Osyth boat yard is a short walk away were you can see traditional Thames sailing barges, next door to the boat yard is the White Hart pub serving lunches from 12am. We have many lovely walks or bike rides were you can observe the bird life and take in the sea and wild marsh views, the lagoons to the south west sea wall have a population of the rare Avocet also many waders like curlew egret redshank and we are famous for our Marsh harriers which you can see quartering the fields every day . We also run the stables with eighteen livery's so if you would like to bring your horse on holiday with you we can cater for this, we have a ménage and some great country riding.

St. Osyth village is also worth a visit and in the evenings there are a few nice places to dine. Colchester is a short drive away were you can shop till you drop and Constable country is also just fifteen miles away a beautiful day out also Clacton-on-Sea is just a twenty minuet drive from St. Osyth however after visiting these places we are confident you will be glad to get back to the cart lodge to relax and take in the views.
